About SAR DR

Our Role in Disasters

Drawing from our 1400+ highly trained search and rescue (SAR) members, we supply a much-needed resource to support municipalities, First Nations and other agencies responding to civil emergencies.

Our specialty SAR DR responders provide the right resources, at the right time, in the right place.

Task Forces

Through significant wildfire and other civil emergency responses, SAR Alberta has established the capability to deploy integrated task forces.

These task forces are composed of multi-disciplinary, highly trained search and rescue responders from across the province, organized to deliver coordinated, scalable support to complex incidents.

Designed for flexibility, task forces bring together a mix of skills, leadership and resources to meet evolving operational needs during disasters and civil emergencies.

our value as a force multiplier

24/7 Virtual Emergency Coordination

24/7 Virtual Emergency Coordination

SAR DR is best utilized when called sooner rather than later. Proactively deploying these responders leads to a significantly quicker impact, rather than waiting until local emergency resources are exhausted. These resources are coordinated through SAR Alberta’s 24/7 virtual provincial operations, ensuring continuous oversight and rapid response.

Rapid and Sustained Deployment

24/7 Virtual Emergency Coordination

24/7 Virtual Emergency Coordination

SAR DR member teams are located throughout the province allowing for rapid response from both local teams and the SAR Alberta Provincial Operations Group (POG). Through our 24/7 virtual provincial operations, we ensure that resource requests across multiple operational periods are fully resourced by SAR DR members at the local, regional, and provincial levels.

ICS Integration

24/7 Virtual Emergency Coordination

ICS Integration

Supported by a culture of collaboration and reinforced through recent wildfire deployments, SAR Alberta responders integrate seamlessly into existing ICS structures. Enabled by 24/7 provincial operations (SARPOC), this ensures coordinated, scalable and sustained support aligned with incident needs.

Cost Effective

Professional Self-Sufficient Teams

ICS Integration

SAR DR services are a cost-effective means of ensuring public safety. Our SAR responders do not receive remuneration. However, tasking agencies are requested to provide reimbursement related to mileage, food and accommodations.
